Mumbai Reclamation Studio
Strategy, Branding
A school project—the brief was to create a brand about anything. I developed Mumbai Reclamation Studio—a creative recycling makerspace designed to encourage creative hobbyists, artists, and designers to experiment with waste materials as creative fuel. In addition to diverting trash from landfills, the makerspace aims to cultivate attitudes of civic care and sustainable creative practices. In India, where caste hierarchies and demoralized attitudes often marginalize the labour of waste handling, this brand repositions working with waste as a desirable and aspirational pursuit.
The identity features multilingual typography, a lead-by-example materials and printing strategy for sustainability, and a visual strategy cataloguing the odds and ends of Mumbai life and the acts of making.
